Temperament & Behavior

Skunk Corys are social catfish that feel more secure with companions of their own kind. They may initially be shy, especially without shaded cover or a suitable group.

They explore the substrate using sensitive barbels and rest among plants and décor. Occasional surface air gulps are normal; repeated gasping should prompt a water-quality and oxygen check.

Feeding

Offer a varied diet that reaches the bottom. Check that quieter fish receive enough food when housed with faster-feeding tankmates.

Recommended foods:

Quality small sinking pellets
Nutritionally complete catfish wafers
Frozen or live brine shrimp
Daphnia
Appropriately sized bloodworms
Small worms and insect-based foods

Skunk Corys need deliberate feeding. They should not be expected to live on scraps or remove algae.

Use fine sand with open feeding areas. Provide plants, driftwood, and shaded retreats. Keep the substrate clean, maintain good oxygenation, and leave access to the water’s surface.
