Why Legacy Line Aquatics
Legacy Line Aquatics LLC is a small-scale, breeder first freshwater fish business based in Owensboro, Kentucky. What began as a personal passion for fishkeeping and breeding has grown into a business centered on one simple goal, offering healthy, high-quality freshwater fish with care, transparency, and responsibility.
In-house breeding remains the foundation of Legacy Line Aquatics. Fish produced through our breeding programs are bred and raised in our own carefully maintained systems. Every day involves hands on feeding, water changes, observing behavior, monitoring spawns, caring for fry, and giving young fish the time they need to grow properly before becoming available.
Quality starts long before a fish is listed for sale. We are intentional about the breeding stock we select, looking for healthy, well-developed fish with strong coloration, desirable traits, and reliable lineage or locality information whenever applicable. We would rather invest in excellent breeding stock and develop our programs carefully than choose fish simply because they are inexpensive or easy to produce.
Alongside our in-house breeding programs, we also offer a limited selection of carefully chosen imported fish. These Select Imports allow us to provide high-demand species outside our current breeding programs and maintain a broader, more consistent selection for our customers.
Select Imports are sourced through established U.S. wholesale partners and are always clearly identified as imported; not bred by Legacy Line Aquatics. Every Select Import is held in a dedicated quarantine and conditioning system for a minimum of four weeks before becoming available. During that time, we monitor behavior, body condition, and feeding. If a concern arises, quarantine is extended, and the fish is not offered until it meets our standards.
Our in-house breeding programs span Corydoras, rainbowfish, rice fish, danios, rasboras, livebearers, angelfish, dwarf cichlids, Lake Malawi haps and peacocks, Tanganyikan species, and select plecos. Each program is chosen intentionally, allowing us to offer fish for many types of freshwater aquariums while maintaining dedicated care for every breeding group.

We believe locally bred fish deserve a stronger place in the aquarium hobby. Knowing how fish were raised, what they were fed, and the conditions they experienced from the beginning can make a meaningful difference in their health and transition into a new aquarium.
We also believe customers deserve complete transparency when choosing sourced fish. Whether a fish was bred here or selected through one of our wholesale partners, its origin will always be clearly disclosed.
Our goal is not to produce or sell the largest number of fish possible. It is to build a diverse, respected breeding program while offering a carefully selected range of freshwater fish we are genuinely proud to stand behind.
If we would not feel confident adding a fish to one of our own aquariums, we will not sell it.
