The Roseline Shark, also known as the Denison Barb or Red Line Torpedo Barb, brings striking color and constant movement to a spacious freshwater aquarium. A bright red stripe and bold black lateral line contrast against its silver body, creating an eye-catching display as the group swims together.

Despite the common name, Roseline Sharks are barbs rather than true sharks. They are social fish best kept in a school of at least six, with larger groups offering an even more impressive display.

Why Hobbyists Love Roseline Sharks

  • Bright red, black and silver coloration
  • Active schooling behavior

Animal Data

Temperament & Behavior

Roseline Sharks need swimming space and companions of their own kind. Their activity can overwhelm particularly timid fish, so choose tankmates that are comfortable in a busy aquarium.

Feeding

Offer a varied diet built around quality flakes or small sinking pellets, with occasional frozen or live foods and some vegetable content.

Recommended foods:

  • Quality omnivore pellets or flakes
  • Spirulina-containing foods
  • Frozen brine shrimp
  • Daphnia
  • Occasional bloodworms

Choose food sizes appropriate for the fish you receive and spread feeding across the tank so the entire school can eat.

Tank Parameters & Tankmates

Provide an established aquarium with open swimming lanes, moderate water movement and strong aeration. Arrange plants and decorations around the edges. Use a secure lid.

Tank Size (Recommended)

A standard 75-gallon aquarium provides a useful starting footprint for an adult school. Larger groups and heavily stocked communities need additional space.

Water Temperature

Maintain stable conditions within the recommended range. This species is better suited to cooler community aquariums than to the prolonged high temperatures commonly used for discus.

Tank Mates

Choose peaceful fish of suitable size with overlapping temperature and water requirements.

Avoid

Aggressive predators, fish small enough to be eaten, and tankmates requiring substantially warmer conditions.
