The L204 Flash Pleco is a striking Peruvian pleco covered in narrow cream or yellow stripes over a dark body. Its pattern extends into the fins, and mature specimens can develop an impressive lyre-shaped tail.

L204 Flash Plecos are wood and biofilm grazers rather than dependable algae cleaners. Their aquarium should always contain real driftwood, established surfaces, caves, and supplemental sinking foods.

Why Hobbyists Love L204 Flash Plecos

  • Bold pinstriped pattern
  • Attractive elongated tail
  • Manageable adult size
  • Generally peaceful with community fish

Animal Data

Temperament & Behavior

L204 Flash Plecos are generally peaceful toward midwater fish but may become territorial with other plecos around caves, driftwood, and feeding areas. They are most active during dim lighting, evening hours, and feeding.

Feeding

These plecos graze driftwood, biofilm, and established surfaces, but they still require regular supplemental feeding. They should not be purchased solely as aquarium cleaners.

Recommended foods:

  • High-quality pleco wafers
  • Wood-based or high-fiber foods
  • Vegetable-containing sinking pellets
  • Repashy-style gel foods
  • Blanched zucchini and similar vegetables
  • Occasional protein-rich sinking foods
  • Natural driftwood available at all times
Tank Parameters & Tankmates

They do best in tanks with:

  • Real driftwood
  • Multiple appropriately sized pleco caves
  • Smooth rocks
  • Established biofilm
  • Moderate current
  • Strong oxygenation
  • Stable water around pH 6.0–7.5

Tank Size (Recommended)

  • Single specimen: 30 gallons minimum
  • Small group: 40-gallon breeder or larger
  • Community with multiple plecos: 55 gallons or larger

Water Temperature

  • Ideal range: 77–84°F
  • Warm water must be paired with strong oxygenation

Tank Mates (Good Choices)

Best tank mates are peaceful fish that occupy other levels of the aquarium.

Good tank mates may include:

Warm-water schooling fish:

  • Cardinal Tetras
  • Rummy Nose Tetras
  • Larger Rasboras
  • Rainbowfish

Cichlids:

  • Angelfish
  • Apistogramma
  • Bolivian Rams
  • Other peaceful dwarf cichlids

Bottom dwellers:

  • Sterbai Cory
  • Other peaceful warm-water Cory species

Avoid:

  • Large aggressive plecos
  • Multiple males without enough caves
  • Cold-water fish
  • Low-oxygen aquariums
  • Setups without real driftwood
  • Expecting them to live entirely on algae
