Anubias Barteri

Anubias Barteri is a durable, broad-leaved rhizome plant well suited to low-tech aquariums. It grows larger than Anubias Nana and produces substantial dark green leaves that work particularly well around driftwood, rocks, caves, and shaded areas.

Its tough foliage makes it useful in many aquariums where more delicate plants would be damaged. It is not indestructible, however, and determined herbivores can still harm it.

Growth & Care

Anubias Barteri grows slowly and steadily. Healthy plants may eventually produce side shoots that can be divided once they develop a substantial rhizome and root system.

Lighting & Nutrition

Low-to-moderate light is preferred. Excessive light can encourage algae on the plant’s long-lived leaves. A complete water-column fertilizer is usually sufficient.

Placement & Planting

Secure the plant to driftwood or rock. Roots may extend into the substrate, but the thick horizontal rhizome must remain exposed.
