What You’re Getting from Legacy Line Aquatics

At Legacy Line Aquatics, these fish are bred and raised in-house by us in a small-scale, care-first setup. We do not source from mass-production fish farms. Our focus is on raising healthy fish with clean water, proper nutrition, and attentive day-to-day care, so you receive fish we would be confident keeping in our own fish room. We take a small-scale approach so we can focus on:

  • Fish health
  • Clean systems
  • Proper feeding, mixture of high-quality sinking pellets, live baby brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and high-quality flakes.

Animal Data

Temperament & Behavior

Mexican Dwarf Crayfish are active, curious, and full of personality. While they are much smaller and generally more manageable than larger crayfish species, they are still crayfish and can be opportunistic. They do best in aquariums with plenty of cover, broken lines of sight, and enough space to reduce conflicts.

Feeding

Mexican Dwarf Crayfish thrive on a varied omnivorous diet. A rotation of quality foods helps support growth, molting, breeding condition, and overall health.

Recommended foods:

  • High-quality sinking pellets
  • Crab or shrimp foods
  • Algae wafers in moderation
  • Blanched vegetables occasionally
  • Frozen foods or other protein-rich foods in moderation
Tank Parameters & Tankmates

They do best in tanks with:

  • Plenty of hiding places
  • Caves, rockwork, wood, and structure
  • Stable water quality and temperature
  • Gentle to moderate flow
  • Open bottom space with cover throughout the aquarium

Tank Size (Recommended)

  • Single crayfish: 5 gallons minimum
  • Pair or small group: 10 gallons+ recommended
  • Community or breeding setup: 15–20 gallons+ preferred

Water Temperature

  • Ideal range: 68–76°F
  • Many hobbyists keep them around 70–74°F
  • Stable temperature is more important than chasing an exact number

Tank Mates (Good Choices)

Best tank mates are peaceful fish that occupy different areas of the tank and are not likely to harass them or be easily caught.

Good tank mates may include:

  • Small peaceful fish in carefully planned setups
  • Ricefish
  • White Clouds in appropriate temperature ranges
  • Fast midwater fish that do not spend much time on the bottom
  • Snails in some setups, with caution

Avoid:

  • Large aggressive fish
  • Slow bottom dwellers
  • Long-finned fish that may be grabbed
  • Shrimp if you do not want to risk losses
  • Other crayfish in cramped setups without enough cover
