Celestial Pearl Danio (Danio margaritatus)

Celestial Pearl Danios (Danio margaritatus), also known as CPDs or Galaxy Rasboras, are a favorite for good reason. They stay small, show beautiful spotting and color, and have a lot of personality for such a tiny fish. In a planted tank, a healthy group of CPDs can be one of the most eye-catching nano species you can keep.

At Legacy Line Aquatics, these fish are bred and raised in-house by me in a small-scale, care-first setup. I do not source from mass-production fish farms. My focus is on raising healthy fish with clean water, proper nutrition, and attentive day-to-day care, so you receive fish I’d be confident keeping in my own fish room.

Why Hobbyists Love Celestial Pearl Danios

  • Beautiful spotted pattern and strong color in a small fish

  • Great nano fish for planted aquariums

  • Tons of personality and active display behavior

  • Excellent for hobbyists wanting a small species with “show fish” appeal

  • Can be kept in groups in modest-sized aquariums

Temperament & Behavior

CPDs are peaceful but can be a little shy at first, especially in sparse tanks. They color up and behave more naturally in planted setups with cover. Males will display to one another, which is normal and one of the best parts of keeping them.

They do best in tanks with:

  • Dense plants and visual cover

  • Gentle flow

  • Calm tank mates

  • A group of their own kind

Tank Size (Recommended)

  • Species-only or lightly stocked setup: 10 gallon minimum

  • Community setup: 15–20 gallon preferred

  • Best kept in groups of 8+ (larger groups usually show better confidence)

Water Temperature

  • Ideal range: 74–78°F

  • Stability is more important than chasing an exact number

Tank Mates (Good Choices)

Best tank mates are peaceful nano fish that won’t outcompete or stress them.

Good tank mates may include:

  • Ember tetras

  • Chili rasboras (in appropriate setups)

  • Small peaceful rasboras

  • Pygmy corydoras

  • Small shrimp (with caution depending on setup and fish size)

Avoid:

  • Large or aggressive fish

  • Fast, boisterous feeders

  • Fin-nippers

  • Fish large enough to eat them

Feeding

CPDs do best with small foods and variety. They may ignore oversized pellets/flakes.

Recommended foods:

  • High-quality micro pellets

  • Crushed flakes

  • Frozen baby brine shrimp / daphnia / cyclops (when available)

  • Live baby brine shrimp (excellent for conditioning and growth)

What You’re Getting from Legacy Line Aquatics

When you purchase from me, you’re getting fish that were bred and raised in-house, not mass-imported and flipped. I take a small-scale approach so I can focus on:

  • Fish health

  • Clean systems

  • Proper feeding, mixture of high quality sinking pellets, live baby brine shrimp, frozen bloodworms, frozen brine shrimp, and high quality flakes.

  • Parasite free

That matters, especially with nano fish.
